Volunteer for GOTV
Our union ensures that we have the right to workplace democracy, but we know that our working conditions are created both inside and outside the workplace, which is why it’s crucial for us to pay attention to, learn about, and participate in the politics around us.
In 2024 we’re fighting for fair taxation of the wealthy, public services remaining public, safe-staffing standards and healthcare cost transparency, more affordable housing, and expanded family leave. You can read our full breakdown of NJ legislative priorities here.
2024 is a big year for statewide and national elections, and we must do all we can to elect the candidates that will put working families first.
New Jersey's upcoming presidential, congressional, and local General Election Day is November 5th, 2024.
Union Endorsed Candidates
Every time we vote – or don’t – we are making a choice about our future.
Do we elect those who believe government provides important services or do we empower those who believe government should be eliminated or cut back? Sitting out any election only guarantees that we have taken ourselves out of the process and let someone else speak for us.
Our votes determine whether we can afford college for our children, retire with security and dignity, and protect the working class in this country. Don’t take your vote for granted.
All political endorsements are a multi-step process.
First, members of the CWA Local 1036 Legislative-Political Action Committee (“LPAC”) review the records of incumbents, interview new candidates, and discuss the history of support/non-support for individual candidates. We consider whether the candidate has been supported by CWA, by the NJ AFL-CIO, and by County Central Labor Councils. The LPAC votes to recommend endorsement. Recommendations are made to the Executive Board.
Second, the full Local Executive Board considers recommendations from the LPAC and takes final action.
No candidate can receive support from the Local unless approved by both the member LPAC and the Executive Board.
