Trump Federal Spending Freeze Threatens Jobs and Creates Chaos

The Union represents not only the members but also the work they do.

We are deeply concerned about the recent chaos caused by the Trump Administration to freeze federal grant programs. The order was unclear and broad and possibly illegal to take without Congressional action. A federal court blocked it and then the Administration retracted its order but also stated it was still in effect.

Regardless of how any member voted in the 2024 election, this freeze directly impacts CWA members’ jobs. Freezing these funds – without advance notice and with extremely poor planning – shows us all the priorities of this administration.

Potentially impacted programs include school meals, shelter for homeless veterans, meals on wheels for seniors, community development, workplace safety and training, and others that our CWA members deliver to residents. These programs are critically important to thousands of New Jerseyans that rely on them for their daily needs.

We are actively working with employers and our members to assess potential impact of federal funding freeze or cuts.
