Retiree Pension COLA Updates
Since Gov. Christie forced legislation in 2011 freezing COLAs on retired public worker pension benefits, our CWA retirees have fought to restore them. Active members receive contractual raises and every household has felt the sting of inflation and rising costs, but monthly pension benefits for our public employee retired members have been frozen for a decade.
There is renewed movement to reinstate a cost of living increase on public worker retiree pensions.
Senator Vin Gopal (D-Monmouth) recently wrote a strong opinion piece supporting COLAs for retirees.
A legislative bill (S-260/A-2758) with bipartisan support, including several legislators endorsed by CWA, is currently awaiting action in the Legislature.
