Stewards Build Power at Leadership Development Conference
Over 170 Stewards from across Local 1036 gathered on September 15 and 16 for a dynamic leadership development conference focused on strengthening our collective voice and advancing the issues that matter most to working families. The conference featured trainings in member representation, confronting bias in the workplace, and mobilizing around our kitchen-table concerns—wages, healthcare, retirement security, and dignity on the job.

Stewards engaged in interactive workshops designed to sharpen their advocacy skills and deepen their understanding of contract enforcement and grievance handling. Workshops on fighting bias encouraged open dialogue and equipped stewards with tools to foster more inclusive workplaces.
The conference also served as a time to reflect on the past year’s challenges and victories. Members reviewed key battles—from organizing wins to contract fights—and celebrated the solidarity that made those successes possible. Together, we charted a path forward, identifying strategic priorities and planning mobilization efforts for the months ahead.
As frontline leaders, stewards play a critical role in building union strength. This conference reaffirmed our commitment to empowering members, defending workplace rights, and standing united in challenging times ahead. Our Local 1036 Stewards are ready to lead the charge.
